About the project
The ASAN AUNZ Self Advocacy App is a revolutionary mobile application designed to empower Autistic individuals during emergencies. Developed in partnership with the Autism Self Advocacy Network (ASAN) Australia and New Zealand, this app provides users with a trusted resource to advocate for themselves when they may not be able to communicate effectively.

Client challenges
Autistic individuals often face heightened challenges during emergencies, such as medical incidents, meltdowns, or other critical situations, where self-advocacy may not be possible. ASAN required a mobile app that would address these specific needs by providing personalised, accessible, and user-friendly tools to:
- Connect with emergency contacts quickly and securely.
- Provide critical information to healthcare providers and first responders.
- Reduce anxiety by ensuring preparedness in times of crisis.

Our solution
Enterprise Monkey partnered with ASAN AUNZ to design and develop a custom mobile application tailored to the specific needs of the Autistic community. Our process began with in-depth discovery and planning, where we worked closely with ASAN to identify key requirements, including emergency contact management, secure login functionality, and the ability to capture critical health and support details.
The app was developed using React Native, enabling seamless functionality on both iOS and Android platforms. A personalised emergency contact system was implemented to allow users to manage and customise trusted contacts. We incorporated advanced secure login options, including biometric authentication, to ensure accessibility without compromising security. Dynamic forms were also built to capture detailed health and communication preferences, empowering users with customisation and control.
Accessibility was at the heart of our approach. By adhering to WCAG standards, we ensured the app was inclusive, featuring a simple and intuitive design suitable for users of all abilities. To support scalability and data management, a robust backend infrastructure was developed, ensuring the app could grow with the needs of its users.
Through rigorous testing, including accessibility and quality assurance, we delivered a reliable and impactful solution. The app was launched successfully within tight timelines, reflecting our commitment to empowering the Autistic community with innovative and accessible technology.
Impactful outcomes
The ASAN AUNZ Self Advocacy App is a game-changer in empowering the Autistic community. It reduces stress and anxiety by offering a robust, reliable tool to help individuals feel prepared and supported in emergencies. With personalisation options and intuitive functionality, the app ensures that users’ voices are heard, even when they can’t communicate directly.
Working with the Enterprise Monkey team has been an absolute pleasure. Their talent, patience, and responsiveness have stood out throughout the process. They’ve been incredibly accommodating, and even more so given the exceptionally tight time frames for project completion.
